1.1 Evolution of Blogging

Written on :

If you were to read my first entry, you would’ve known that this isn’t my first blog. A quote from the Friendster’s Blog that I find kinda true is that

“A blog is often a reflection of its writer”

That’s why, when I find that my mindset of writing one particular blog changes; I would change to another one.

Last night, while upgrading my iBook G4 from the old Tiger OS to the new Leopard OS X; I found myself immersed with re-reading all 384 entries of the first blog that I ever wrote back in 2004. [I've archived the blog by the way ;p]

The oldest entry was dated 31st of January 2004. Officially then, I’ve realized that I’ve been blogging for 5 years.

One of my entry was the one below:

From an entry dated 19th March 04.

You know promises are meant to be broken rite? So, here I am breaking a promise to myself that I would not succumb to my desire to write a new entry.

I am supposed to be working on my homework, but I find that the concentration is not there. So, to toy away with my free time, I am going to write my experience on watching 2 post mortems in a hospital.

Actually, I’ve went to the mortuary for three times but it was so unfortunate that the first time I went there, there were no dead bodies to be dissected.

I was lucky as my second visit to the place; they were just about to carry out the post mortem. It was a man of Indian descent. He was naked from top till his foot, with the exception of his private parts. I learned later that it was the hospital’s policy not to bring any disgrace to the man’s family. Of course, even I myself would not want anyone to see me butt naked although I may well be in my journey to heaven at that time. He he(I wish so)

Ohh. Before I describe the experience, let me tell u guys bout a tip I got from the doctor. When u see a dead body for the first time, it is best to look at his feet first before u take a look at his face. It’s some sort of way to avoid the haunting of the dead man’s ghost. I suppose.

The first thing that she – the pathologist did to the dead body was to cut his rib open with a – I’m not sure what the thing is called, but it is some sort of a gardener’s cutter. That was done after she has sliced the man open with a mere kitchen’s knife (looks like it).

As the man was warded in the hospital before he died, and as he was given saline and everything, his inside was flooded with blood. The doctor has to practically wade her hands in the pool of blood to search for his organs.

The next thing she did really confuses me at first. She was trying really hard to find the tongue. I was thinking, what does she intends to do with the tongue? His organs are all there to be inspected. It turns out later that the tongue connects all the vital organs. Which means, once you found the tongue, you’d be able to find all the other organs easily.

She was right. When she found the tongue – which she disconnected from the trachea of the dead man, she held out all the vital organs to me. You know what tandan pisang looks like? There, you have the perfect analogy of how the vital organs are connected with each other. All the bananas are the organs, dangling from the tongue which goes all the way through the abdomen (well, it is not tongue. It s the oesophagus actually. What the heck. I haven't learned anatomy yet, so sorry bout the jargon.)

To cut the story short (did ja realise that my intention to write a short entry has deviated? It is turning long by the minutes), she sliced every vital organs until she is convinced that there is a cause of death.

I have to stop here. Next time I write, I will talk about the organs themselves, and my second visit there.

So, that was my first ever impression of a post-mortem. It seemed so long ago, that I had that first experience. I wonder whether that would be one of the choices of my profession later on.

As I read all my entries, I discovered that:

1. I really hated Maths xD ah ha ha.......
2. I'm a procrastinator [@ lazy :/]
3. I write like a crazy person :D

I discovered one vital thing though: of how different I was back then.

I was kinda a religious person. ;p

Back then, I consider myself a student of theology. And I really meant that in a good way. I really did study all the major religions, including Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

After a while though, I only focused on the first 2 religions. That's why some of my entries are filled with some quotations from either the Quran or the Bible. [and yes, my family including my parents have already started reading my entries back then. Maybe they slide it off thinking that I was being the theologian that I am :D]

Islam and Christianity shares so many things, yet they are so different.

So, at 19 years old, I started being *both* a Muslim and a Christian. Weird? You tell me.

After quite a few years though, I was not satisfied with both religions' answers to being gay. Simply not enough.

So, at 21/22 years of age; I renounced both religion.

Atheist however, I'm not.

I still believe in a Supernatural Being. I believe in the Evolution Theory of Charles Darwin [although I know he's been disproved of so many of his theories], but I do not believe that *our* existence are merely a result of pure co-incidences.

So, I became an Agnostic.

and wow, this is a long entry. xD

I should stop here.
